Migration
Migration is the transfer of a substance between two media in contact, especially during the interaction between the container and its content. In packaging, the word has a precise meaning: a substance of the packaging can migrate into the product, or the other way round. A simple example: the smell of new fabric passing into the product. It is a serious matter for food, cosmetics and perfumes. Fabrics and inks in direct contact with these products must be chosen for their neutrality, with certified materials where the regulations require it. The best way to avoid migration is to pre-wrap the product concerned.
